The omnibus tests of trade magazine Busfahrt are among the most demanding in the industry. This year the annual comparative test, the IBC International Bus & Coach Competition, took place for the seventh time. Spheros has been accompanying the test team for six years and has thus acted as official partner almost from the beginning. The rigorous procedure is the same each time: the candidates are put to the acid test by an experienced test team with experts from the field. The main focus of the test is meticulous measurement of consumption.
This year’s line-up consisted of the MAN Lion’s Regio, Scania OmniExpress and Irisbus Iveco Crossway regional buses. The three rivals were required to prove themselves in numerous disciplines. The final outcome was very close, as none of the contestants manifested any glaring weaknesses. But there was a winner: in the drive sector MAN Lion’s Regio clearly set itself apart from the competitors and won the race! With low spare parts prices and an extensive service network, MAN earned victory with a perfect balance and optimum comfort. The two contestants from Irisbus and Scania also showed themselves to their best advantage. While the Irisbus secured a surprisingly clear first place in the evaluation of economic efficiency, the Scania OmniExpress demonstrated best fuel consumption. More about the final results can be found in the next issue of Busfahrt.
Incidentally, next year the IBC test will be supplemented by various air conditioning measurements together with the Spheros team. Our air conditioning experts are already looking forward to the project and eager to find out which systems will prevail in direct comparison.
